Sports Massage is a very fast and a very deep massage therapy which is very popular with professional sports people but is very beneficial for anyone who trains regularly. Although this can be a painful massage I always advise clients to breathe and to never go beyond their pain threshold, this prevents the muscles from going into further spasms. The practitioner uses hands, forearms and elbows for this massage thus allowing for a more specific massage that can get into trigger points that may be present. Trigger Points are areas of extreme pain and sometimes cause referred pain as well, they can be found anywhere in the muscular system. I also use a sports massage oil that I make from essential oils such as lemongrass, orange or black pepper to help clean the muscle fibres from any toxins.
